Not just for college

My name is Jocelyne Coombs and I received one of the Mingo Club’s grants last year.

I appreciate what the Mingo Club does for the kids in this community. I also appreciate that their grant isn’t just for kids going to college. If you’re a Harpswell resident attending postsecondary schooling, this grant is for you. If you want to buy a license or be in a certificate or licensure program, this scholarship is for you, too!

I am attending Southern Maine Community College, but I applied for the Mingo Club’s scholarship so I could get help with funding my business. I am a lobsterman out of Mackerel Cove and being a lobsterman is expensive. I used just about all of my Mingo Grant just to pay for my commercial lobster license. It is expensive and I am thankful that the Mingo Club was able to help me with it.

I encourage Harpswell’s seniors to apply for the Mingo Grant. It is a wonderful club that wants to help out young students and help them succeed in the future. Applications will be in the counseling office at Mt. Ararat High School and are available online at tinyurl.com/mingoclub.

Harpswell’s waterfront on the ballot

On Nov. 5, we'll all make some consequential votes at the ballot box at Harpswell Community School. National and statewide ballots notwithstanding, Harpswell residents will have six warrant articles to vote on that will directly impact residents and town facilities.
