Town picks firm for energy audit

A Yarmouth consulting firm will conduct an energy audit of the Harpswell Town Office for $14,382 as the town seeks to reduce its carbon footprint.

Sparhawk Group has “35 years of experience in maximizing building performance and our highly knowledgeable team has the skills necessary for effective and successful energy auditing,” according to the company’s proposal.

The contractor will analyze the building’s utility bills, inspect the building’s systems, develop and prioritize conservation measures, provide information about financing and incentives, and combine the information “to create an optimum energy reduction project,” the proposal states.

The project is part of the town’s sustainability plan, which aims to reduce its carbon footprint. At least part of the $14,382 will come from a grant from the Governor’s Office of Policy Innovation and the Future, with the balance to come from the town’s energy conservation account and/or its facilities budget.

Sparhawk was the only contractor to submit a bid in response to the town’s request for proposals, Town Administrator Kristi Eiane told the Select Board on Dec. 29. The Energy and Technology Committee reviewed the proposal and recommended it.

The Select Board approved the agreement 3-0.
