J.W. Oliver
J.W. Oliver is the editor of the Harpswell Anchor.
Oliver joined the Anchor in June 2021 after 11 years at The Lincoln County News, the last five as editor. He was the Maine Press Association’s 2017-18 Journalist of the Year. His work has appeared in the Portland Press Herald and the Bangor Daily News, among other publications.
Oliver grew up in South Bristol. He lives in Walpole with his children, Harrison and Miriam.
Janice Thompson
Janice Thompson is a founder of the new Harpswell Anchor and now serves as the Anchor’s director of development and operations.
A fundraiser with 35 years of experience, Thompson has advanced the missions of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Harvard University, the Boston Athenaeum and other organizations.
Thompson lives on Harpswell Neck with her husband, Jeremy Jones. They have two adult children. She recently published her first novel, “Dry Tinder: A Tale of Rivalry and Injustice in Salem Village.”
Sam Allen
Sam Allen fills a variety of roles at the Harpswell Anchor, including ad designer, page designer, web administrator and administrative assistant.
A 2019 graduate of the University of Southern Maine, Allen has written for the Anchor since high school and still contributes the occasional story.
Allen grew up in Harpswell, where his family goes back at least five generations. He lives in Brunswick.
J. Craig Anderson
Craig Anderson is the Harpswell Anchor’s first full-time reporter.
Anderson has more than 20 years of experience in journalism. He worked at the Portland Press Herald from 2013-2022, The Arizona Republic from 2008-2013, and the East Valley (Arizona) Tribune from 2002-2008.
Anderson served in the U.S. Army from 1991-1995 as an intelligence analyst and Arabic linguist at the National Security Agency. He graduated from the University of Arizona in 1999 with a bachelor’s degree in journalism. He lives in Freeport.
Susan Hancock
Susan Hancock is the Harpswell Anchor’s administrative coordinator.
She previously worked for the Philadelphia School District as deputy of employee support services. She and her husband, Charlie Hancock, started building a timber frame house on Dingley Island in 2011. Since moving here full time in 2022, she has been an active volunteer with Harpswell Aging at Home.
She has a degree in economics from Ursinus College and a Master of Business Administration from Villanova University.
Jane Warren
Jane Warren is the Harpswell Anchor’s manager of advertising and sponsorships.
She previously worked for Maine Public Radio and Maine Coast Heritage Trust. She and her husband, David Warren, have land on Orr’s Island, where they plan to build a home on Lowell’s Cove.
The Warrens currently live in Brunswick. They have one daughter, Emily, who lives and works in Brooklyn, New York.
