Young bicyclist injured after running into emergency vehicle

A juvenile bicyclist was flown to a hospital with “serious but not life-threatening” injuries after running into an emergency vehicle on Cundy’s Harbor Road the evening of Friday, May 22.

Two juveniles were riding bicycles from the Harpswell by the Sea neighborhood onto Cundy’s Harbor Road while a truck from the Cundy’s Harbor Volunteer Fire Department was going south on Cundy’s Harbor Road a few minutes before 6 p.m., according to a statement by the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office. The juveniles didn’t stop at the intersection and one of them hit the rear bumper of the truck, despite the driver’s attempts to avoid them.

A helicopter from LifeFlight of Maine flew the juvenile to Maine Medical Center in Portland, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

The Sheriff’s Office didn’t identify the juveniles or give their ages, nor did it identify the driver of the truck. It identified the truck as Squad 5.
