Harpswell residents lose power in snowstorm

More than 1,700 Central Maine Power customers in Harpswell were without electricity Wednesday afternoon as heavy, wet snow weighed down trees and power lines across coastal Maine.

As of 5 p.m., 1,759 of the town’s 4,761 CMP customers remained without power. Statewide, 10,571 customers were out, down from more than 23,000 earlier in the day, according to CMP.

The utility said more than 100 crews and additional support staff were responding to outages, primarily in the Brunswick area and nearby coastal communities.

CMP said it would continue restoration work “as quickly and safely as possible” until all customers have power.
