Following the last public hearing about Harpswell’s draft comprehensive plan on Aug. 16 at Harpswell Community School, the Comprehensive Plan Task Force met to consider the public comments made during the hearing and decide whether major changes to the plan were needed. The task force determined no major changes were required and forwarded the draft to the town for publication and distribution.
Copies will be made available at the Cundy’s Harbor, Orr’s Island, and Curtis Memorial libraries, as well as the Town Office. Online access will be available on the town website, harpswell.maine.gov.
The plan will be voted on by secret ballot on Nov. 4.
Prior to the vote, the town plans to send the draft plan to the state for review. The town also will send a request for an exemption from a state requirement to designate growth areas.
If the plan is approved by voters and certified by the state, an important first step for the town will be to create an implementation committee to serve as a link between the Select Board and town committees to monitor progress toward the goals articulated in the plan.
