My only opinion on public boat launches in Harpswell is to create as many as possible. It’s entirely untrue that they only facilitate a little joyriding for a minimal number of goof-offs. They allow folks who don’t own shorefront access to get on the water, for whatever reason they have for going out there. That’s a pretty big deal. Without public access, they will lose that opportunity.
I encourage anyone to take a trip down the Intracoastal Waterway, pass through those quaint towns of yesteryear, and tell me that the locals with history and minimal means are happy about the current water access available to them. Many people probably see the luxury and success stories. I see heartbreak and exclusion.
Of course, I know nothing about the town’s finances, but I can only conclude that they’re in halfway decent shape.
