Hannah Miller joined the Harpswell Anchor in May as the organization’s 2026 seasonal news intern.
Miller will graduate from the University of Florida in August with a bachelor’s degree in journalism with a specialization in visual journalism. Her work has appeared in WUFT, a public media outlet run by the university.
“I’m very happy to be a part of local nonprofit journalism this summer,” Miller said. “I do believe that nonprofit journalism will help to keep the industry alive and the news accessible to everyone. I look forward to learning about this beautiful town and meeting the members of the Harpswell community!”
In her free time, Miller enjoys swimming, running and reading.
The Harpswell Anchor’s seasonal news internship, now in its fifth year, provides mentorship and professional experience to a postsecondary journalism student. The Anchor pays interns and provides housing to make the opportunity accessible to all, regardless of economic circumstances.
Interns receive one-on-one guidance from the Anchor’s staff and the professional journalists who contribute to the Anchor as board members, freelance contributors and volunteers. In return, interns make essential contributions as members of the news staff during Harpswell’s busiest time of year.
The internship has benefits beyond a unique summertime experience for a college student.
“The Anchor and its readers benefit not only from the work interns produce, but also from their knowledge about new ways to produce and share journalism,” said J.W. Oliver, editor of the Anchor. “Most importantly, the internship benefits our profession because our interns — already among the top students in their field — enter the workforce ready to make an immediate impact.”
