I am Deputy George Bradbury. I work for the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office. I am a resident of Harpswell. I live and work among you.
New Year’s resolutions
Happy New Year! If your New Year’s resolutions include giving back to your community, there are many organizations looking for volunteers. Our fire departments always need volunteers. There are opportunities with Harpswell Aging at Home and many more organizations.
Sand and shuffle
It’s midwinter and there is plenty of snow and ice in our future. The Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office has a program called Sand for Seniors. If you are a senior in need of sand for the ice, you can call 800-501-1111 and a deputy will bring you a bucket.
When you have to walk on ice and snow, you should always shuffle your feet like a penguin.
More tips and reminders
We should all be aware of what is going on in our neighborhoods. Check on your older neighbors. Make sure you call in incidents while they are happening, not after the fact.
Stay vigilant against fraud. We never pay bills with gift cards. We never give out personal information over the phone.
We all know that if we own a vehicle, we are responsible for having insurance, registering our vehicle and having our vehicle inspected. Now is a good time to check your vehicle’s registration, inspection and insurance.
Remember, let’s be safe out there! And don’t get voted off the islands.
