Sarah Sparks

Sarah L. Sparks, 89, died on Sunday, Nov. 9, 2025, at home after a brief illness. She was born in Sebasco, Phippsburg, on April 24, 1936, the daughter of Archie and Grace Gomes Alexander.

She graduated from Morse High School in 1953 and Beal Business College in 1958.

She married Jon R. Coffin Sr. and had two sons, Jon R. “Buff” Jr. and Brian D. Coin. She was employed by several companies before joining the staff at Parkview Hospital, retiring from there in 1995.

On Sept. 28, 1978, she married David Sparks. She traveled extensively with him until his death on May 28, 2021.

During their 44 years of marriage, they spent 19 winters in Florida and many summers in Canada. They built a new home together in South Harpswell and remodeled two other houses. She enjoyed her “ma gardens” and spending time with her family.

She was predeceased by her husband, David; her parents; one brother, Eugene Alexander; four sisters, Eleanor, Marion, Ruby, and Janet; and a stepdaughter, Lynn Reid.

She is survived by her sons, Jon and Brian; a daughter-in-law, Anne Marie Coffin; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
