Tracy Gaudet, Harpswell’s deputy town clerk, is running for tax collector to replace Jill Caldwell, who is retiring after 20 years in the position.
Gaudet was born and raised in Brunswick and moved to Harpswell in August 2000. Her professional career spans more than 25 years, with a focus on customer service and administrative support.
“Over the last three years, I have enjoyed working for the town and serving my community, and decided that this is where I want to continue my career long-term,” she said in an email. “When the opportunity arose for the tax collector position, I decided I was ready to take on the challenging (job).”
Gaudet said she has been shadowing Caldwell and learning about the role as well as she can while fulfilling her duties as deputy town clerk. Although Caldwell will leave “big shoes to fill,” Gaudet said she is enthusiastic about getting started if residents elect her. She is the sole candidate on the ballot.
“My overall goal is to continue the exceptional service and dedication that Jill has provided throughout her (tenure) alongside Sandy (Bichrest), the deputy tax collector,” Gaudet said. “I am committed to serving my town and community to the highest standards and to the best of my ability.”
When she isn’t working, Gaudet enjoys a variety of activities, such as walking, watching movies, spending quality time with friends and family, traveling and reading. She said she feels lucky to live in Harpswell.
