For the first time, Midcoast CA$H will offer free tax preparation in Harpswell for eligible residents. The program, a United Way of Mid Coast Maine initiative, provides free federal and state tax filing for households earning up to $67,000 annually. Services are conducted by IRS-certified volunteers.
Harpswell’s tax prep session is scheduled for Tuesday, March 18, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Town Office on Mountain Road. Appointments are required, with scheduling opening Jan. 15. Residents can book online or call 207-295-6340 or 207-751-3756. Additional resources and appointment scheduling are available on the program’s website: cashmaine.org/free-tax-prep.
The effort to bring the service to Harpswell was led by former state Rep. Jay McCreight, D-Harpswell, who collaborated with Doreen Fournier, United Way’s director of community impact. Harpswell Aging at Home and the town of Harpswell will assist with promotion and appointment sign-ups, McCreight said in an email.
The initiative aims to make tax filing assistance accessible and convenient for Harpswell residents, though eligible residents can attend any Midcoast CA$H location.
