Harpswell Anchor launches new website

The Harpswell Anchor launched a new website on July 1.

The new site, still at harpswellanchor.org, seeks to improve the reader experience with a clean, modern design and technological improvements. It fixes minor bugs from the previous iteration and allows Anchor staff to easily post updates with the latest news.

Among other changes, the redesign organizes numerous links and options into an expandable menu in the upper left-hand corner of the site. The most popular options remain in a menu visible on the homepage.

Sam Allen, design and technology administrator for the Anchor, built both the previous site and the new one. The previous website, launched in 2021, won first place in the 2022-23 Maine Press Association Better Newspaper Contest.

“It may seem counterintuitive to replace a prize-winning website, but we are constantly striving to improve both our journalism and the way we deliver it,” said J.W. Oliver, editor of the Anchor. “We want to give our readers the best possible experience, both online and in print.”
