Dog droppings at Mitchell Field

This is a firm but respectful reminder that dog walkers at Mitchell Field must pick up after their dogs. Dog feces are not good fertilizer for grass. It is also unsightly and smelly, and no unsuspecting walker wants to step in it!

The town provides two “dog stations” with free bags and bins where you can deposit your catch. Please use them!

Mitchell Field is comprised of meadows, woods and wetlands, and much of the land slopes down to the beach and swimming area. No one wants dog feces washed down to the shore.

My husband and I voluntarily do poop inspections on our walks. On Feb. 26, we collected close to 50 dog droppings in a one-hour period.

So far, Mitchell Field has very few rules: Leash your dogs between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m., pick up after your dog, obey the 15-mph speed sign, take out what you carry in, and don’t park on the grass! Please show your appreciation for this beautiful property and obey these few rules. We should all want to keep Mitchell Field healthy and beautiful for years to come.
