The art of our town

“Winter at Lookout Point,” by Christine Chaffee.

As I look out my window while cozy by the fire, I think about how quickly autumn passed and winter settled in. This time of year, Harpswell seems to take on a quieter and more subdued beauty. It can be easy to overlook the continued magnificence and charm of the landscape, seascape and community that surrounds us. As an artist, I have sought to capture the beauty of this town we are so lucky to call home in my work.

My latest piece, “Winter at Lookout Point,” reflects on the vibrancy of our shoreline in the colder months.  This scene, like many others in our beautiful town, brings me peace, gratitude and serenity.

I invite my fellow residents to find joy in the year-round beauty that surrounds us. Take a walk along the water, attend a wholesome community event or explore the work of local artists, and our town’s magical spirit may resonate with you.

Here’s a quote from a favorite tune, “Next Year,” by The Ghost of Paul Revere: “I always wished that I would be a painter / So I could show the world just how I see.” Together we can put things into perspective and bring light to the season with art and gratitude for the place we are so lucky to call home!

Station a win-win proposition

Central station deserves our support

What is more important to all of us than the safety and care of our families and homes? Responses to health, fire and other emergencies should be available to all Harpswell residents as rapidly and as equitably as possible.
