Wonderful generosity at Ukraine fundraiser

Thank you, Harpswell. Thank you for your wonderful generosity at the June 12 Ukraine fundraiser.

More than $31,000 has been donated so far to assist Chuhuiv, a small town in Ukraine only 23 miles from Kharkiv, whose only hospital, serving 8,000 patients, was badly damaged by shrapnel from a Russian missile strike. The funds will be sent to Chuhuiv to replace supplies and equipment damaged or destroyed in the attack, especially in the maternity ward.

More than 200 people attended the fundraiser at Centennial Hall, where they participated in live and silent auctions of donated artwork, crafts and experiences.

Over the past three years, Harpswell-area communities have donated more than $100,000 to the people of Ukraine, who are the innocent victims of Putin’s inhumanity and war.

A special thanks to the many volunteers who made this year’s fundraiser so incredibly successful. We also appreciate Chuck and Donette at the Recycling Center for their help with our flyer distribution, and Dave Hackett for his tireless efforts to arrange Centennial Hall for the fundraiser.

Many thanks to Carrot Signs for donating the yard signs and The Dolphin Marina and Restaurant, Wild Oats, Cook’s Lobster & Ale House, Moderation Brewing Co., Shaw’s, Hannaford, and Morning Glory Natural Foods for contributing the delicious food and beverages.

It is a real tribute to our community that it has come together to assist Ukraine. We are so proud and grateful to call Harpswell our home.
